The Michigan Critics Guild is a new organization announcing winners this year. A very small group usually makes idiosyncratic choices, which could explain why Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, and Past Lives make Best Picture without a corresponding directing citation while Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese don’t get their films past the finish mark.
