The Gotham Awards are usually idiosyncratic and these selections largely follow that trend with not-quite-indie One Battle After Another and Sinners pulling wins they wouldn’t have picked up in years past had they not removed their budgetary limitations for nominations. Though, you have to wonder when voting ended because the It Was Just an Accident wins seem a little to “fortuitous” to be “accidental.”
