The only major precursor outside of BAFTA left for Adapted Screenplay is the USC Scripter, which typically awards the screenwriter and the source material. This is great news for Origin, which seems to have been forgotten by most groups this year. The others were largely expected. What missed out? All of Strangers and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret were the biggies. Some might suggest Barbie, but since that film isn’t based on a specific written source but a preponderance of sources, it was never going to qualify here. The Color Purple was also a remote possibility, but even the little attention that film got has not been in the screenplay department.
