With this and the Motion Picture Sound Editors, we can probably form a pretty good guess as to which of the Academy shorlisted films will make it through. Let’s start with what’s missing between the Academy’s list and the CAS’s. Emilia Pérez, Alien: Romulus, Blitz, and Joker: Folie à Deux. The only two to miss both lists are Blitz and Joker, so you can probably count those two out. Now which ones are on both MPSE and CAS lists: A Complete Unknown, Deadpool & Wolverine, Dune: Part Two, Wicked, and The Wild Robot. While that would make a pretty sure list, Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t seem like the kind of film the Academy likes to nominate. I could see it being replaced by the more popular Emilia Pérez, but the film missing here isn’t a great sign. Rather the below five could also just carry over straight to the Oscars. This is where prognosticators make educated guesses. Stay tuned for our final nomination predictions next week for more info.
