Making room for 7 nominees should have helped films like Nickel Boys earn a nomination but it was shut out and left with a measly Spotlight Award nomination. It was one of the most vital and important cinematographic achievements this year and was ignored in favor of films like A Complete Unknown and Conclave. And as happy as I am that Wicked was recognized for some spectacular photography, the Nickel Boys miss is inexcusable.
