June Predictions

We’re back with our first updated predictions of the year. There wasn’t a lot of movement, but one film that suddenly pulled into the competition is Cannes winner The Zone of Interest, which features in several new predictions this month. We’re taking the categories from our last slate in May and added the screenwriting categories this month. Next month, we’ll be adding in Animated Feature and Visual Effects.

As soon as the page is ready, we’ll have predictions from Wesley, Pete, and Thomas in all categories except Original Song, International Feature, the documentary categories, and short film categories. Keep your eyes peeled for that one.

Introductions

Wesley Lovell: Not a lot of changes were made, mostly just removing non-contenders from the rolls and most of those were in the craft categories. The only change I made in the highlighted categories this month was in Best Supporting Actress where Lily Gladstone replaces Emily Blunt. Beyond that, not a lot of changes.
Pete Patrick: We still don’t know what we still don’t know. I’m moving Carey Mulligan in Maestro from Supporting Actress to lead although either is possible. On the other hand, I’m sticking with Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon in support for now. I’m removing Steve McQueen’s Blitz from my predictions as this is beginning to look more like a 2024 release.
Tripp Burton: I don’t have a whole lot to say at this point. These are mostly pure guesses!
Thomas LaTourette: There are not too many changes from my last predictions as we still have not seen most of the movies. Asteroid City did not open to good reviews, so it is probably off of the list of possibilities. Jonathan Majors is being tried for domestic abuse, which will have scuttled his Oscar chances. I am starting to wonder if the ongoing writers’ strike will affect some of the films that may still been in production for a late year release. Will have to wait and see how that goes.
