June is still early to be guessing at what the Oscars might bring but a few films have started releasing that might have diminished in terms of their chances. Others have started to rise. Regardless, here’s how we see things going right at this moment.

Introductions

Wesley Lovell: With The Life of Chuck earning solid reviews (in spite of being held back), I’ve finally added it to my list though I remain unimpressed with its chances as yet. I did, however, give A Big Bold Beautiful Journey more attention this time. After that trailer, I was surprised how enjoyable it looks. Although I think it looks good, Kiss of the Spider Woman did have a festival debut that didn’t garner attention, so I’ve mostly removed it from several predictions. Otherwise, most of the stuff I have predicted is unchanged.
Pete Patrick: Little has changed since last month. I replaced Michael with Sinners in Makeup as Michael is looking more and more like it won’t be released this year but I’m hesitant to make more changes until we get more heat either from the critics or the box office receipts before I make any drastic changes.
Thomas LaTourette: I decided not to change my predictions this month. I felt that I did not learn enough about new and upcoming movies to move things around. Sinners still sounds like the film to beat, but with six months left to go that could easily change. The Cannes Film Festival did not award anything with the Palme d’Or or acting categories that look to be major players this year. I did already have the Grand Prix winner in several categories. Will see what the next month brings.
