The major festivals are over. All that remains are the precursors. Will our current inklings cement or melt with the November/December precursors? We shall see.

Introductions

Wesley Lovell: While not as sizable as it will be after the first few weeks of precursors, I’ve made numerous changes, especially to nominees. I also removed several “contenders” who are most definitely not contending anymore. I add a few new ones but not many. The festivals didn’t solidify too much.
Pete Patrick: The major festivals have come and gone and we’re still not sure where this year’s Oscars are going, but it’s time to take a chance and throw a few wild cards into the mix.
Thomas LaTourette: Again, there is not too much movement from last month. It does feel like it is becoming a race between Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another and Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet. Both did well at film festivals, and both look poised to garner several nominations especially in acting categories. I have never been that fond of Anderson’s movies so will be curious if I like this one. Jessie Buckley has become a strong frontrunner for best actress. Most of the other acting races are still just that, races. Sinners remains the only early opening film that likely could gather a number of nominations. Marty Supreme, Wicked: For Good, and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere remain the biggest question marks of the remaining films to open. Will be interesting to see what the next couple months bring.
