No weird period/contemporary overlaps this time but there are a surprising 5 films that picked up all three crucial nominations for Oscar consideration. One of those five, Weapons, wasn’t on the Academy’s short list so you can probably take the four remaining and predict they are going to be the Oscar nominees. For the fifth slot, that’s an open question. Marty Supreme and The Smashing Machine are the only other shortlisters in these nominations but you can’t enitrely count out the titles that didn’t make it (The Alto Knights, Kokuho, Nuremberg, The Ugly Stepsister) but it isn’t a good sign for any of them.
