Although there’s no Sound Editing Oscar any longer, this will likely give us a clue as to which Best Sound nominees at the Oscars have a chance.

MOTION PICTURE SOUND EDITORS AWARDS

Legend:

Winner Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette

Runner-Up Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette

Best Sound Editing: Feature Effects / Foley

Anemone Nil
F1 WL PP TL
Frankenstein PP
One Battle After Another TL
Sinners WL

Wesley Lovell: Another lock for F1? It had better hope so if it wants the Oscar.
Pete Patrick: This is for sound effects, so more likely to go to F1 than anything else nominated here.
Thomas La Tourrette: F1 should easily win this one, especially after key wins at Critics Choice and BAFTA.

Best Sound Editing: Feature Dialogue / ADR

Bugonia Nil
F1 TL
Frankenstein Nil
One Battle After Another WL PP TL
Sinners WL PP

Wesley Lovell: F1 might be the frontrunner at the Oscars but this is for dialogue/ADR and that seems more likely to go to one of the more talky films like One Battle or Sinners. That said, Bugonia can’t entirely be counted out because it’s probably one of the most talky.
Pete Patrick: Should be one of the two Oscar favorites.
Thomas La Tourrette: One Battle After Another is the probable winner over either F1 or Sinners as dialogue was more key to its success than in the others.

Best Sound Editing: Feature Animation

The Bad Guys 2 Nil
Elio Nil
KPop Demon Hunters WL PP TL
Zootopia 2 WL PP TL

Wesley Lovell: KPop Demon Hunters should have this one easily sorted.
Pete Patrick: Popularity wins again.
Thomas La Tourrette: The musical KPop Demon Hunters should be the winner here as the others do not stand much of a chance of winning.

Best Sound Editing: Feature International

Belén Nil
Dong Ji Rescue Nil
Sirât WL PP TL
Sound of Falling WL PP TL

Wesley Lovell: Sirât has the only Oscar nomination in this batch so it should win easily.
Pete Patrick: More than likely a win for Sirât.
Thomas La Tourrette: Sirât is the only one of these films with an Oscar nomination which should give it the leg up to win.

Best Sound Editing: Feature Documentary

Becoming Led Zeppelin WL TL
Deaf President Now! Nil
I Was Born This Way PP
It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley WL PP TL
Viktor Nil

Wesley Lovell: If Becoming Led Zeppelin wins at CAS, it will likely win at MPSE too.
Pete Patrick: Could be any of the nominees.
Thomas La Tourrette: Becoming Led Zeppelin was one of two films nominated for both this and music editing for a documentary, so I think it is the likely winner.

Best Music Editing – Feature Motion Picture

KPop Demon Hunters TL
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Nil
One Battle After Another PP
Sinners WL PP TL
Wicked: For Good WL

Wesley Lovell: Sinners did feature music prominently, which should boost it to the wind but both Wicked: For Good and KPop Demon Hunters are actual musicals so they could prevail instead.
Pete Patrick: Should go to the best of the best.
Thomas La Tourrette: In a battle between two musical films, I give the edge to the live action Sinners over the animated KPop Demon Hunters.

Best Music Editing – Documentary

The Beatles Anthology: Episode 9 Nil
Becoming Led Zeppelin WL PP TL
Billy Joel: And So It Goes: Part 1 Nil
It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley WL PP TL
Stans Nil

Wesley Lovell: Notch another win for Led Zeppelin unless Jeff Buckley, The Beatles, or Billy Joel have something to say about it.
Pete Patrick: A tough call, but I’m seeing another win for It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley.
Thomas La Tourrette: The Led Zeppelin documentary seems the likely winner as it was up for both this and sound editing.
