We’re looking at each individual category for the Oscars and what our thoughts are going into the final stretch. We’ve adjusted our thoughts based on the precursor associated with this category, Writers Guild of America. Below are our predictions in Best Adapted Screenplay.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Winner Predictions

  • Bugonia
  • Frankenstein
  • Hamnet
  • One Battle After Another (WL) (PP) (TL)
  • Train Dreams

Runner-Up Predictions

  • Hamnet (WL) (PP) [New] (TL)

Wesley Lovell: The two lead contenders for Best Picture are thankfully not together in the writing categories, which makes it fairly easy to predict the winner. One Battle After Another has won nearly every adapted screenplay prize so it should have no problem winning at the Oscars.
Pete Patrick: One Battle After Another has had this in the bag all season long.
Thomas La Tourrette: This is even an easier category to predict than original screenplay as One Battle After Another has trounced the competition winning over 80% of the precursors. When Hamnet could not even win at BAFTA, it cemented One Battle as the sure frontrunner. Winning the USC Scripter and Writers Guild awards was just icing on the cake. There is no chance that One Battle After Another does not win.
