Wesley Lovell: With the Cinema Audio Society going to F1, it seems a foregone conclusion it will win here. Frankenstein won at the Motion Picture Sound Editors, as did Sinners (twice), and Sirât. Although I think Sinners could stage an upset, right now, F1 is sure to win at least one prize this year and this is the best place to honor it.
Pete Patrick: This will probably go to the loudest, which means a win for F1.
Thomas La Tourrette: The guilds threw some surprises here too. The Cinema Audio Society went with F1 which has easily had the most wins all season long but then the Sound Editors went with Sinners and Frankenstein, with an international award to Sirât. All of those are nominees, along with One Battle After Another, so it has thrown the race wide open. If F1 had won the sound editors guild then it would have cruised to a victory as nothing would have been able to stop it. However, with Frankenstein already dominating the tech awards, it might just get checked here too as it won the feature effects/foley award. Sinners took feature dialogue which shows a strong preference for it. And if Sinners goes on to a large sweep, then perhaps it will take this too. I have yet to see Sirât, but I have heard that the immersive sound is amazing in it. So, it is anyone’s race. I will go with F1 the early frontrunner to win, but will not be surprised if it goes to one of the other films instead.
