These could very well be our Best Picture nominees. They seem to be the most commonly cited, rewarded, and predicted. The Animated Feature category, however, is unlikely to replicate with The Super Mario Bros. Movie the most likely to get left off.
This likely means the end of the road for Air, The Color Purple, and May December as they all could have been buoyed by citations here. That doesn’t leave many options, which is why this seems like the final batch. As to Animated Feature, the film most hurt by these nominations is Nimona, which is a leading contender for the nomination. Suzume and Robot Dreams could also have used this nomination. Wish is almost definitely out as a result and while I can see Nimona edging out The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the only other seemingly vulnerable title and it’s done too well not to be considered a solid fourth-place finisher.
