When looking at the Best Sound category, the Cinema Audio Society is one of two precursors that might reveal Oscar voters’ thinking.

CINEMA AUDIO SOCIETY AWARDS

Best Sound Mixing – Live Action

Barbie
Ferrari
Killers of the Flower Moon (RU:Peter)
Maestro (RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)
Oppenheimer (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: Oppenheimer should make a clean sweep of the sound awards. Maestro could upset.
Pete Patrick: There’s no reason to expect this to go to anything other than Oppenheimer with Killers of the Flower Moon its closest runner-up.
Thomas La Tourette: This should be an easy win for Oppenheimer.

Best Sound Mixing – Animated

The Boy and the Heron (RU:Peter)
Elemental
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the odds-on favorite to win. The Turtles are the most likely runners-up.
Pete Patrick: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Boy and the Heron continue their win some, lose some battle for the year’s best in animation, but I give a slight edge to the bigger box office hit: the Spider-Man sequel.
Thomas La Tourette: Spider-Man feels like the winner as it probably came close to an Oscar nomination, or at least closer than any of the other animated films.

Best Sound Mixing – Documentary

32 Sounds (Wesley)
American Symphony (Peter, RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)
Little Richard: I Am Everything
Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie (RU:Peter)
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: 32 Sounds is once again the documentary that best aligns with the interests of the organization. American Symphony, though, could be a spoiler.
Pete Patrick: The deeply moving American Symphony should take this one easily with the Michael J. Fox doc its closest rival.
Thomas La Tourette: I do not know if this really will go to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour movie, but balancing the sound for a concert film cannot have been easy. It definitely feels like the one that should win.
