The other Best Sound feeder is the Motion Picture Sound Editors. After the Sound Editing category was removed, it was rolled into Best Sound and Sound Editors are now nominated alongside Mixers. We still look at their results for clues, especially if they align with the Cinema Audio Society.

MOTION PICTURE SOUND EDITORS AWARDS

Best Sound Editing: Feature Effects / Foley

Gran Turismo
Ferrari (RU:Peter, RU:Thomas)
John Wick: Chapter 4
The Killer
Napoleon (RU:Wesley)
Oppenheimer (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: It would be surprising if a Christopher Nolan film didn’t win this award. Napoleon does have that war-time, medieval effects thing going for it as a possible runner-up.
Pete Patrick: Oppenheimer wins again with Ferrari its closest runner-up.
Thomas La Tourette: I cannot imagine anything but Oppenheimer winning.

Best Sound Editing: Feature Dialogue / ADR

Barbie
Killers of the Flower Moon
Maestro (RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)
Napoleon
Oppenheimer (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)
Poor Things (RU:Peter)

Wesley Lovell: Once again, Oppenheimer is the easy leader but Maestro could well come out a winner.
Pete Patrick: The dubbing award probably goes to Oppenheimer as well with Poor Things second in line.
Thomas La Tourette: Again, this looks like an easy win for Oppenheimer.

Best Sound Editing: Feature Animation

Elemental (RU:Wesley, RU:Peter, RU:Thomas)
Migration
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Wesley Lovell: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is very likely the winner here. Elemental could pose a threat but I doubt it.
Pete Patrick: No contest. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will easily win this.
Thomas La Tourette: This should be an easy win for Spider-Man.

Best Sound Editing: Foreign Language Film

Anatomy of a Fall (RU:Peter)
Godzilla Minus One (RU:Thomas)
Society of the Snow (RU:Wesley)
The Zone of Interest (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: The Zone of Interest is the likely Oscar frontrunner but was shoehorned into the foreign language category where it will easily triumph.
Pete Patrick: The widely heralded sound design of The Zone of Interest probably wins this hands down.
Thomas La Tourette: The Oscar nominated The Zone of Interest will win this.

Best Sound Editing: Feature Documentary

32 Sounds (Wesley, Thomas)
American Symphony (Peter, RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)
Mourning in Lod
Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (RU:Peter)

Wesley Lovell: 32 Sounds seems like a perfect fit for this organization.
Pete Patrick: This has to go to American Symphony unless there are a lot of Taylor Swift fans in the MPSE.
Thomas La Tourette: From what I have read, 32 Sounds is an immersive documentary that explores how sound affects us and it seems like it should win.

Best Music Editing – Feature Motion Picture

Barbie (Peter, RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)
Creed III
Maestro (Wesley, Thomas)
Oppenheimer
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
Wonka (RU:Peter)

Wesley Lovell: While they do love their musicals, Maestro‘s devotion to music will likely resonate with voters unless they want to give something to Barbie or make Oppenheimer a sweeper.
Pete Patrick: Probably Barbie with Wonka a spoiler.
Thomas La Tourette: Maestro was the film most about music, so it seems likely to win.

Best Music Editing – Documentary

American Symphony (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)
Pianoforte
Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie (RU:Thomas)
WHAM! (RU:Wesley, RU:Peter)

Wesley Lovell: American Symphony and Wham! are familiar documentaries about musicians plying their trade, so one will win. I believe it will be the former.
Pete Patrick: American Symphony should win this one easily.
Thomas La Tourette: American Symphony is nominated elsewhere which should help it win here.
