Our final predictions for the preponderance of critics announce their nominees. We’ve seen a lot of changes and while there seems to be some coalescence among us, there are some categories we’re still very far apart on. Our next predictions will be releasing just after the shortlists are announced so we may be a bit hectic in getting this feature finalized for next month. For now, have a look at what we’re seeing right now.

Editor’s Note: Thomas is away on vacation but inadvertently submitted 6 nominees for Best Supporting Actress. Once he adjusts the lists to account for the error, we’ll update the below. This has now been fixed.

Introductions

Wesley Lovell: Most of the last few films that remain unseen are now in the hands of critics and of them, Gladiator II seems to have lost the most. It has been relegated to lower categories only with a few nods still potential if another film falters with critics. There are still a handful we don’t know enough about to make certain predictions: The Brutalist, Juror #2, and A Complete Unknown haven’t screened broadly (if at all in the latter case) so they remain question marks for now.
Pete Patrick: At this point, most of the year’s most anticipated films have either been released or at least viewed by critics, and still we don’t know anything, but the first major awards are just weeks away.
Thomas LaTourette: There was surprisingly little movement on my list. I have added Wicked in a couple of places, but that is the major change. I still know little about The Brutalist and September 5 but I will be interested to see them when they finally arrive. Gladiator II, Flow, Queer, and A Complete Unknown are films that I have not read much about yet. Most pictures have screened a fair bit, so we get a good idea of what ones will do well once the Oscar nominations are announced. I am sure there will still be surprises. There always are.
