For our final update before the Oscar nominations are announced, several films moved on to the next stage. Today, we’ll look at where each film moved and look at a new ranking of each of the contenders.
We will also take a step in a different direction for our lists at the end. In addition to the current-stage ratings, we’ll also organize regardless of stage since a lot of films haven’t hit our traditional benchmarks. Since the Oscar nominations are next week, it’s important to see how things stand. The caveat is that without the box office results or a complete picture of critic and audience reactions, we cannot gauge the changes for certain.
Before we get to stage changes, let’s talk about some films that we’ve changed their Type. Many of them becoming Broad contenders and some to Narrow. Some, however, have moved down to Effects or another category.

If a film has surpassed a month in release, it is eligible for a move to Stage 4, but must first have already completed Stage 3 as well, so a lot of films stay in Stage 3 for a relatively long period of time while others move to Stage 4 rather quickly.
