Wesley Lovell: The difficult choice here is between Poor Things and Barbie. The ADG was the only place that both competed against one another and Poor Things won (in the fantasy category). Oppenheimer won in period with no competition from Poor Things. They each won at the SDSA with Poor Things in the period category. While I still think Barbie could pull this one off, Poor Things appears to now be in the driver’s seat.
Pete Patrick: This is Oppenheimer‘s to lose but three films, Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor Things, and Barbie could surprise. The only nominee that has no chance is Napoleon.
Thomas La Tourrette: This is between Barbie and Poor Things, and I am not certain which way it will go. The guilds had split them up into different categories, so they rarely competed against each other. For a long time, I thought that Barbie would win, but it may be edging towards Poor Things. Both created memorable worlds with Barbie’s pink and plastic versus Poor Things’ over the top take on period work. I really do not know which way it will go. The minutely detailed work of Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Napoleon do not stand a chance against the flamboyance of the other two. It is almost coming down to a coin flip for me, but I will go with Poor Things to win, but would not be surprised if it goes to Barbie. Either is deserving of the award.
