Wesley Lovell: This category is very strange. The Brutalist needed a serious trim. Emilia Pérez had too few edits for its content. The other three were solidly edited but none stand out as the best edited film. Thus the conundrum. Anora has a lot of plot and lots of edits and I could imagine it standing out among this group and while it’s my third favorite of the five editing jobs, I would support its win.
Pete Patrick: This seems to be a three-way race between The Brutalist, Conclave, and Anora in that order.
Thomas La Tourrette: The guild has not had their awards yet, so we are without that guide. Conclave would seem the likely choice as it was a compact film. The sheer length of The Brutalist will hurt its chances, though it will definitely be in the running. Anora was edited by its director, and that will hurt its chances here as the Academy rarely honors someone who does both. Neither Emilia Pérez nor Wicked would seem to have much of a chance. I expect Conclave but could picture an upset.
