We’re looking at each individual category for the Oscars and what our thoughts are going into the final stretch. We’ll adjust our thoughts based on the precursor associated with this category, Live Action Short. Below are our predictions in Best Live Action Short.

Best Live Action Short

Winner Predictions

  • A Lien
  • Anuja (WL O)
  • I’m Not a Robot
  • The Last Ranger
  • The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (PP P) [New] (TL O)

Runner-Up Predictions

  • A Lien (WL O)
  • Anuja (PP P) [New] (TL O)

Wesley Lovell: Sadly, I have not had a chance to see these yet so I’m just spit-balling this winner/runner-up.
Pete Patrick: The Man Who Would Not Remain Silent is about a man who stands up to ethnic cleansing in the 1993 Bosnia and Herzegovina war which sounds like the kind of film that easily wins this award. Anuja about a 9-year-old girl who works in a Taiwanese factory is probably its closest rival.
Thomas La Tourrette: Without a chance to see these, this is merely guesswork and looking at what other people are predicting. They sound interesting and deep, with only one, I’m Not a Robot, that sounds like it has any humor in it. Sometimes those can win, but I am guessing they stick with serious content this year. Anuja and The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent are the best reviewed of the five. I am thinking that the drama of an ethnic cleansing film will win out with The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent being the winner.
