Wesley Lovell: I don’t foresee any film in the Avatar series ever losing a Visual Effects Oscar. Despite many years and familiar graphics, they continue to push the boundaries of what effects can look like so it seems a foregone conclusion that each chapter will one-up the next even if, in my opinion, there’s no marked improvement over its immediate predecessor.
Pete Patrick: Avatar: Fire and Ash is the clear favorite here.
Thomas La Tourrette: It is hard to imagine anything but Avatar: Fire and Ash winning for visual effects. It has won Critics Choice and BAFTA already and is poised to do well at the guild awards. I am writing this before those are handed out, but I expect it to do well there since it does have 10 nominations versus the other Oscar nominees with only one, two, or four VES nominations. The previous two Avatar films won this, and it will as well.
