The Best Sound Oscar was combined a few years ago to incorporate both the sound mixing and sound editing categories. As such, there are two precursors that could have an impact on the category. The first of these is the Cinema Audio Society. Our predictions are below.

Winner Predictions:

Runner-Up Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette
Best Sound Mixing – Live Action
A Complete Unknown Nil
Deadpool & Wolverine Nil
Dune: Part Two WL PP TL
Gladiator II PP
Wicked WL TL
Wesley Lovell: Dune: Part Two will likely win here as it did at BAFTA.
Pete Patrick: I think the sound mixing of Dune II is the one to beat with Gladiator II probably next in line.
Thomas La Tourrette: As it will be at the Oscars and the MPSE awards, this will be between Wicked and Dune: Part Two. It could go either way, but I will give the edge to Dune.
Best Sound Mixing – Animated
Inside Out 2 TL
Moana 2 WL
Mufasa: The Lion King Nil
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl PP
The Wild Robot WL PP TL
Wesley Lovell: The Wild Robot has little competition, though the animated musical Moana 2 could overcome. Strangely enough, of the five nominees, Wild Robot is the only non-sequel/prequel.
Pete Patrick: I think Wallace & Gromit with its clear sound will triumph over the more popular The Wild Robot here.
Thomas La Tourrette: The Wild Robot should win this one.
Best Sound Mixing – Documentary
The Blue Angels Nil
Elton John: Never Too Late WL PP TL
I Am: Celine Dion Nil
Music by John Williams WL PP TL
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story Nil
Wesley Lovell: Let’s give Music by John Williams the prize but the Elton John documentary might still win.
Pete Patrick: It could be any of these, but I’ll go with Elton John over John Williams here.
Thomas La Tourrette: I think this will go to one of the music related documentaries and will give the edge to Elton John.
