Producers measure quality differently than others. Their accuracy has improved over the years, however.

PRODUCERS GUILD OF AMERICA AWARDS

Legend:

Winner Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette

Runner-Up Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette

Best Picture

Anora WL
The Brutalist WL PP TL
A Complete Unknown Nil
Conclave PP
Dune: Part Two Nil
Emilia Pérez Nil
A Real Pain Nil
September 5. Nil
The Substance Nil
Wicked TL

Wesley Lovell: Let’s go for the prevailing wisdom that they pick the future Oscar winner rather than the most successful. The Brutalist is likely to win but I wouldn’t be surprised if they went for the more successful Wicked or perhaps the critics darling Anora. I don’t think any of the others have a chance.
Pete Patrick: I’m expecting The Brutalist to take this with Conclave a possible upset, but wouldn’t rule out a come from behind win by Wicked either.
Thomas La Tourette: This should prove an interesting toss-up between the passion project of The Brutalist and the commercially successful Wicked. The PGA used to be more swayed by box office returns but now seems more in line with what will win the Oscar instead. I think it will be The Brutalist but would not be surprised by Wicked.

Best Animated Feature

Flow WL PP TL
Inside Out 2 Nil
Moana 2 Nil
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl Nil
The Wild Robot WL PP TL

Wesley Lovell: Flow is a more likely winner with a group less focused on success. Inside Out may have been successful but The Wild Robot was also successful and is a leading contender at the Oscars.
Pete Patrick: No reason to expect that this would play out any differently than most other awards in the area this year.
Thomas La Tourette: I did wonder at first if this would go to Inside Out 2, which was an incredibly successful animated film. The Wild Robot has done well enough at the box office that it will probably win. There is a possibility that Flow will get it, but art house films do not do as well in this category.

Best Documentary

Gaucho Gaucho Nil
Mediha Nil
Mountain Queen: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa Nil
Porcelain War WL TL
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story WL PP TL
We Will Dance Again PP

Wesley Lovell: Super/Man was dominant in the precursors and I suspect they’ll continue that direction. That said, Porcelain War is the only Oscar nominee in the bunch and could well win on that count alone.
Pete Patrick: I’m only familiar with the Christopher Reeve documentary which seems popular enough to win.  We Will Dance Again is a blind runner-up.
Thomas La Tourette: With only one Oscar nominee in the batch, there is not a lot to be gleaned about how the Oscars might go. Porcelain War does have the cachet of the Oscar nom, but the more crowd pleasing Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story seems like it might be the winner instead.
