The DGA can have an impact when they pick an Oscar nominee and, overall, their accuracy can’t be beat.

Wesley Lovell: There is no precursor in existence more accurate than the Directors Guild of America. They’re even more accurate than most at predicting Best Picture. They have anointed Christopher Nolan and I see no reason to argue with them. If there’s a surprise, it will be Martin Scorsese getting a second career honor.
Pete Patrick: We all know that Cristopher Nolan is going to win this for Oppenheimer just as he has all the other awards that he’s won this year. Martin Scorsese is a distant runner-up for Killers of the Flower Moon.
Thomas La Tourrette: This is a slam dunk for Christopher Nolan. Oppenheimer has the most nominations, and Nolan is a well-respected director without an Oscar to his name. He has the most precursor awards, though not that many than of his competition. Martin Scorsese is his closest competitor and the most nominated living director, even if he only has one Oscar to his name. But I just do not see it going to anyone but Nolan. He should be working on his speech now.
