Wesley Lovell: The Society of Composers & Lyricists only confirmed the narrative that Oppenheimer is unbeatable, though a posthumous award for Robbie Robertson wouldn’t be completely unexpected nor would a victory by Poor Things, which has an amazingly strange score, which befits the film.
Pete Patrick: Oppenheimer has this in the bag, but if there is an upset, it would most likely be in favor of the late Robbie Robertson’s score for Killers of the Flower Moon.
Thomas La Tourrette: Lugwig Göransson’s somewhat overbearing score for Oppenheimer is primed to win him a second Oscar. There were times it was fitting, but to me it often felt bombastic. However, it is the score people remember and it should easily win. The one person that could pull an upset is John Williams, the oldest ever nominee in any category. He has 54 nominations though surprisingly with only five wins from those. His last win was also 30 years ago. This may well be his final score, and some sentimental voters will list him for that very reason. Still, I do not think he will stand a chance to beat Göransson, though it would be nice to see it happen.
