Wesley Lovell: The resounding victories from CAS and MPSE tell us Oppenheimer is the film to beat. That said, Academy voters on the whole aren’t terribly knowledgeable about the nuances of sound and The Zone of Interest is just the kind of film that can win over the competition just by being inventive.
Pete Patrick: They seem to favor the sound design of The Zone of Interest, which is used in place of music through much of the film instead of more convectional sounds which might have otherwise favored Best Picture front runner Oppenheimer.
Thomas La Tourrette: With recent wins from the sound editors and sound mixing guilds, Oppenheimer is showing its muscle about winning this award. It is hard to imagine any other film winning this. True, The Zone of Interest won the BAFTA, but that was also a British film. There are not a lot of sound precursors, but Oppenheimer definitely has the most, and it will win the Oscar.
