The American Cinema Editors were late out of the gate last year and for nominations this year but we have them in time for this year’s Oscars. The eventual Oscar winner is likely to be one of the winners in the drama and/or comedy categories.
AMERICAN CINEMA EDITORS AWARDS
Legend:
Winner Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette
Runner-Up Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette
Best Drama Editing
F1 WL TL
Hamnet PP
Sentimental Value Nil
Sinners WL PP TL
Weapons Nil
Wesley Lovell: For once, Sinners is not the likely victor. F1 seems more like the high octane editing this guild loves.
Pete Patrick: Sinners should win this with Hamnet the most likely to pull an upset.
Thomas La Tourrette: F1 should be the winner here as I do not see any of the others standing a chance.
Best Comedy/Musical Editing
Bugonia Nil
Marty Supreme WL TL
One Battle After Another WL PP TL
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery PP
Wicked: For Good Nil
Wesley Lovell: One Battle is sure to win but if there’s a guild that could go for the splashy “sports” editing of Marty Supreme, it’s ACE.
Pete Patrick: One Battle After Another should win even though I’m not convinced it was a comedy.
Thomas La Tourrette: Personally, I would give it to Marty Supreme, but One Battle After Another will win.
Best Animation Editing
The Bad Guys 2 WL
KPop Demon Hunters WL PP TL
Zootopia 2 PP TL
Wesley Lovell: The theme of the American Cinema Editors is frontrunners aren’t always frontrunners. KPop might seem like the odds-on favorite but The Bad Guys 2 has a lot of action-paced editing and that could help it overcome the KPop advantage.
Pete Patrick: Another win for the KPop Demon Hunters.
Thomas La Tourrette: KPop wins this.
Best Documentary Editing
Becoming Led Zeppelin Nil
It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley PP
John Candy: I Like Me Nil
Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music WL TL
The Perfect Neighbor WL PP TL
Wesley Lovell: While it would be likely for The Perfect Neighbor to win, the clips package that is Ladies & Gentlemen could overcome while the two music documentaries struggle to avoid splitting interest.
Pete Patrick: The Perfect Neighbor is the one that pops up in other contests seemingly making it the one to beat.
Thomas La Tourrette: The Perfect Neighbor should easily win this award.
