This is our first year forecasting the Casting Society of America Awards since it’s the first year of the Casting award. Since we haven’t predicted before, these guesses could be way off. (Editor’s Note: Somehow the source of this information had last year’s short film nominations listed. This has been updated to reflect the actual nominees. As such, I’ve removed our predictions below.)

CASTING SOCIETY OF AMERICA AWARDS

Legend:

Winner Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette

Runner-Up Predictions:
Wesley Lovell Pete Patrick Thomas LaTourrette

Best Low Budget Comedy or Drama Casting

All That We Love Nil
Bob Trevino Likes It WL TL
Griffin in Summer Nil
Plainclothes PP
Sorry, Baby WL PP TL
We Strangers Nil

Wesley Lovell: Bob Trevino Likes It probably has the best shot but any of these could win, especially indie darling Sorry, Baby.
Pete Patrick: Sorry, Baby is likely the high-profile frontrunner, but the Syracuse, New York-shot Plainclothes has a better cast of mostly unknown actors.
Thomas La Tourrette: Sorry, Baby has the most buzz, including the shout out from Julia Roberts, so it should win.

Best Studio or Independent Drama Casting

Blue Moon TL
Eleanor the Great Nil
Nuremberg WL TL
Pillion Nil
Sentimental Value WL PP
Train Dreams PP

Wesley Lovell: Sentimental Value didn’t get the Oscar nomination but among these, the four Oscar nominations for acting is likely a bonus.
Pete Patrick: A tough category but Oscar contender Train Dreams should do well here with fellow Oscar contender Sentimental Value possible despite its smaller cast.
Thomas La Tourrette: Blue Moon is noted mostly for Ethan Hawke’ performance but I could see it winning.

Best Feature Big Budget Drama Casting

Bugonia Nil
F1 Nil
Frankenstein Nil
Hamnet WL PP
Marty Supreme TL
Sinners WL PP TL

Wesley Lovell: Sinners is very likely to claim this for its diverse casting though Hamnet might have a decent shot as well.
Pete Patrick: Sinners has this in the bag.
Thomas La Tourrette: Sinners should handily win this.

Best Studio or Independent Comedy Casting

Eternity Nil
Friendship Nil
Oh, Hi! Nil
Rental Family WL PP TL
Twinless WL PP TL
The Wedding Banquet Nil

Wesley Lovell: Twinless is my safe guess but honestly, it could be any of these.
Pete Patrick: Rental Family should take this one easily.
Thomas La Tourrette: The Brendan Fraser comedy might prevail due its Japanese cast.

Best Feature Big Budget Comedy Casting

Jay Kelly Nil
Materialists Nil
The Naked Gun Nil
The Phoenician Scheme WL TL
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery WL PP
Wicked: For Good PP TL

Wesley Lovell: This is tough because there are a lot of big casts. Wicked won this last year and that might give them pause of recognizing the sequel for the same cast. It’s more likely to go to one of the efforts with large ensembles like The Phoenician Scheme (my guess or Wake Up Dead Man.
Pete Patrick: My vote would go to Wake Up Dead Man – hopefully they agree with me.
Thomas La Tourrette: Even though part one won last year, I could see Wicked taking it this year too.

Best Feature Animation Casting

The Bad Guys 2 WL
Elio PP TL
Zootopia 2 WL PP TL

Wesley Lovell: The sheer size of the Bad Guys 2 cast gives it the edge over Zootopia 2.
Pete Patrick: Probably box-office hit Zootopia 2.
Thomas La Tourrette: The large cast of Zootopia should propel this to a win.

Best International Film Casting

The Fisherman Nil
Kokuho WL PP TL
Sound of Falling WL PP TL

Wesley Lovell: While Kokuho is an Oscar nominee, Sound of Falling has the larger cast, so I’ll go there.
Pete Patrick: I’m guessing the higher profile of Kokuho will prevail here.
Thomas La Tourrette: With Sentimental Value nominated in a different category, this will probably go to the Japanese Kokuho or the German Sound of Falling.
